KB ID: 115121
Cause:
- BDRShield backup server relies on the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to create snapshots. The alert is usually generated when VSS is unable to start due to an ongoing VSS process.
- Microsoft's native snapshot manager can only execute one snapshot at a time. If a snapshot process is already running when a backup job starts, the backup job might fail.
- Additionally, running multiple backups simultaneously can lead to VSS conflicts. When multiple backup jobs attempt to create snapshots simultaneously, VSS conflicts can occur, resulting in backup failures.
Solution:
To resolve the "SNAPSHOT_FAILURE" issue in BDRShield, follow these steps:
1. Check for other backup applications: Ensure that only one backup application is installed on your machine. If there are multiple backup applications, disable all other applications except BDRShield.
2. Retry the backup job: After disabling other backup applications, try running the backup job again. This should allow Vembu BDR to use VSS without conflicts and perform the snapshot initialization successfully.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the "SNAPSHOT_FAILURE" issue, allowing Vembu BDR to create snapshots smoothly during the backup process.
