Encountering difficulties in consolidating or removing orphaned snapshots of virtual machines processed by BDRShield Backup Server.

The occurrence may be attributed to several factors when using Virtual Appliance Mode (HOTADD) for VM backups, including:

1. Failure of VMware to release the virtual machine's disk from the proxy.

2. BDRShield server crashes during virtual machine processing.

3. Interruption of jobs utilizing Virtual Appliance Mode (HOTADD) due to forced termination.

4. Creation of snapshots on the backup proxy while another job is active.

Note: It's advisable to designate dedicated VMware Backup Proxies and refrain from backing them up or replicating them.

Solution:

1. Preparation: Ensure all jobs are halted to allow identification and removal of disks attached to proxies accurately.
   
2. Identification of Stuck HOTADDed Disks: Inspect the settings of each BDRShield Proxy, focusing on disks meeting the following criteria:

1. The VMDK name doesn't correspond to the proxy but matches a VM flagged for consolidation.
2. The disk is set to Disk Mode: Independent - NonPersistent.
   

Note: In the case of a proxy acting as a Target Proxy for replication, replica disks will be attached as Dependent.

1. Releasing Stuck HOTADDed Disks: Once a disk HOTADDed to a proxy requiring release is identified, follow these steps:

1. Click the ⦻ symbol to select the disk for removal.

   Note: Avoid selecting the option to delete files from the datastore.

2. Click [OK] to confirm the removal.

1. After releasing the disk from the proxy, attempt consolidation again.
