How to Create a Team Chat or 1:1 Chat Application in BDRShield and Access Microsoft Graph Team Export APIs
KB ID: 301020
Purpose:
- The BDRShield, a product of Microsoft 365, facilitates the backup of Team's chats at the channel level and 1:1 & Group chats for each user level. To enable this feature, we need to leverage the Microsoft Graph Export APIs, which may incur additional costs from Microsoft. For more Information please refer to pricing information.
- To enable chat backups, a separate application should be created with the required permissions, such as "ChannelMessage.Read.All," in the Azure portal. Furthermore, this chat application should be registered with your Azure subscription.
Note: The Microsoft Graph Export API for Teams is not currently supported in Microsoft 365 US Government, Germany, and China regions.Step 1: Application Creation
Automatic Organization Addition:
If you are in the process of adding an organization, whether through the automatic or manual method, you will have the option to create an application for team chat backup.
Organization Already Added:
If you have previously added an organization and wish to enable application creation for team chat backup, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to the organization settings.
2. Locate and select the "Edit" option.
3. Enable the "Enable to Create Application for 1:1 & Team Chat Backup" setting.
View Created Application:
To view the application you've created, please click on the "View" option in the user interface. The created application will be listed on this page.
Step 2: App Registration with Azure Subscription
1. Copy the Application ID associated with the application designed for "Backup (Team Chat & 1:1 Chat )"
Note: If the application is not linked with an Azure subscription, the backup process will encounter an error, resulting in the following message: "Backup failed as Chat Application is not registered with Azure subscription. Refer to error code (301020)."
By following these steps, you will successfully create a team chat application in BDRShield, register it with your Azure subscription, and ensure the smooth operation of the backup process.
