oVirt Backup - Overview

How to Get Started

Step 1: Download and install BDRShield Backup Server

  1. To Install BDRShield Backup Server, watch the Backup Server Installation Video below.

Step 2: Create Backup Repository Configuration

Configure local or remote storage such as DAS, NAS, SAN or Use your own public cloud storage like S3, Azure, Google, S3 Compatible like Wasabi, MinIO, etc as a backup storage target to store backup data.

Step 3. Add oVirt host as Data Source

Navigate to ‘Data Sources - Hypervisors' menu and click on 'oVirt'. Make sure to install the BDRShield Delegation Service on each oVirt host you plan to backup using Manual Agent Installation method. Watch the How-to Video below for detailed instructions.


Step 4: Configure Agentless oVirt Backup

  1. Specify a backup job name & select the backup repository
  2. Select Hosts/VMs you want to backup
  3. Configure backup scheduling, retention and encryption policies
  4. Save the backup job
  5. You can monitor backup progress, edit job, view reports, check status and manage backup jobs centrally.

Step 5: oVirt Recovery (Full VM Recovery, File Level Recovery, Instant Boot VM, etc)

  1. Navigate to the 'Recovery - Restore Backup Data' menu
  2. Choose the target Windows host you want to restore
  3. Select the Restore type
  4. Select Restore Point or timestamp to restore
  5. Specify the restore details and initiate the restore
